The bottom line is that you MUST get in front of people and build a relationship with them before you can build your business with them. If you are not willing to do the work to form the relationship, you will not go far in this business. Regardless of your product line, you are selling YOURSELF first. People have to know you. They have to like you. And they have to trust you. We all hate “being salesmen” and it does not feel good (not to mention it is bad business) to try to use “the power of persuasion” to talk people into doing things they ordinarily wouldn’t do – especially by someone you do not know.

Relax. Make friends. Get a hobby. Rekindle an old passion. Meet other people who like the same things. Watch your business grow, as well as your circle of friends! It’s a win-win!

Meet Up.com, Ning.com, and Groups.yahoo.com are three incredible resources for meeting people who can become potential customers and hostesses.

Check out these sites to see what kind of opportunities are around you. Join groups and attend events on things you are interested in. Forming friendships with people who have the same interests as you will help you to be more comfortable working your business into the relationship. Remember, these groups were designed for friendships – so be ready to make friends, whether they ever buy from you or not.

You can find an event any time of year, for any demographic (women, bridal, seniors) and in every price range. Google your city’s Chamber of Commerce for their Community Calendar. Do the same with local Civic Centers, Malls, Community Colleges, Churches, schools, etc. Contact the person in charge of each event and ask about having a booth. You can also find vendor groups on social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Meetup.com. Make sure you have a fun drawing or give-away. Have on-lookers sign-up to win. Take a moment to talk with them. Share your excitement and *follow up* with EACH lead you receive. Use the events to gain contacts.

I am sure you have heard of making your list of 100, but what most consultants fail to do is continue to add to this list. Sit down and make a list that is comprehensive. Think of everyone you know! Think of every group you have even belonged to in the past and write those names down. The list of 100 will be wayyyy bigger!! Think of the people on your list and then write down the people you know that are in their circles. Every contact you meet should be added to this list. If you add two names per day, that is over 600 people you would add to your list at a minimum!!! This list should continue for the rest of your life, seriously!!!! You will never run out of contacts!!!

Lynsey Jones, of Party Plan Divas, suggests that we think of marketing as a “garden.”

If you think of all of the things that go into planting a garden from scratch – they are very much the same as marketing your business. From needing a plan (where will you plant your seeds?) to watering your garden to make it grow (follow up) you must treat the building of your business like you are planting a garden.

Pack up little “Gardening Gifts “ with your business information and a couple of samples wrapped in pretty packaging and go out Gardening.

Walk into businesses and simply say “Hi, my name is _____ and I am expanding my business in this area. Would it be ok for me to leave you some information and samples for your employees?”(This is not soliciting because you are not selling anything!) If they ask what it is, then you have an invitation to talk more. If not, leave your goodies, and follow up later. This is a great way to work with local doctor’s offices, dentists, etc. in your area.

Be sure to follow up again, in a month or so, to see if you need to re-stock. Always be ready to give someone a piece of information about you! Theses items say something about you and your business. Make them fun!!

What is your favorite “gardening tool” with your cold market?

Everyone knows a couple of people, right? I am sure you came into this business expecting that your best friend, mom, aunt, sister, co-workers, and all of your neighbors would support you, book parties and buy enough product to support your family??? They are your warm market.

Many consultants have the misconception that their warm market will support them and if they don’t, many give up and even quit!!! This is THE BIGGEST mistake of our industry!

So, who are these people that don’t know about Jamberry? If your mom did not buy anything and your sister refuses to stop going to the salon, why would ANYONE else out there be interested in this product? Why would they want to host a party with YOU? I mean, no one showed up to your launch party, so obviously you have failed in this business already, right? WRONG!!!

Each month Jamberry exceeds their sales records almost daily! Momentum continues to grow every day, as more and more people fall in love with our products! Consultants that are successful have learned how to tap into the gigantic COLD market. There are still plenty that have been waiting for an introduction to our products. It is time for you to find there!
